A Day In My Life in 2020: Temitope Adeniyan

Dear Diary,

As each years passes, season changes, people die, and dreams get buried, so I’m grateful to God for life because the dead has more excuse of not living their dreams.

Today I’m so thankful for the life I have and what I’ve become thus far. A blessed mother of a wonderful daughter (oluwadunbarin) and a successful wife of a blessed and extraordinary man and of course one of Nigeria’s top Female Photographer.

Some months ago I received an email from APA (Africa Photography Awards) 2020 notifying me of the date, venue, awards and nominees. But to my surprise I was not only nominated for one but for two categories, I was so happy I jumped up in gladness and almost fell into an unexpected labor. This was indeed good news!

The Dday had come and my husband had forced us to travel down from our home in Canada down to South Africa a day before APA(Africa photography Awards). This morning he had woken me early enough to what I called a crusade (an hour prayer session) all in the name of APA. If only he knows how fulfilled I am, already getting to be a nominee alone was a soothing thought of achievement and he would have just left me back home to rest my giant tummy, get inspired and continue my life. But he’s just so passionate about my success.

APA (Africa photography Awards) 2020 was meant to start for 6pm but I was sure it won’t be starting anything earlier than 8pm. But I had to get dressed before I upset my husband. I had planned on wearing the radiant black dress he got for me on his last trip to Italy, it was beautiful and perfect for this occasion. And so I rushed into the bathroom hurriedly took my bath forgetting to sing choruses as usual, stepping out of the bath I slipped! I screamed my husband’s name aloud and as he rushed into the bathroom, my water had already broken. I held my back down in pain as I said “I think the baby is around” he started praying as he picked up his phone to call the driver he had hired to take us round town for our period of stay in South Africa. I was immediately rushed to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academy Hospital.

At 10:25pm I had another dazzling beautiful baby girl and I asked my husband if he had heard anything about the awards he said “No but I’m happy enough”

At 11pm my husband received a call from a senior colleague, sister and friend Kike Koleosho that I got the award for “The Photograph of the year”. I was overwhelmed with gladness. Now you know who I am. I am Temitope Adeniyan, a fulfilled Photographer.
